THE FINAL PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE.

Following a successful tradition, this will be the fourth edition of the VSSN Workshop to be held in conjunction with ACM Conference of Multimedia 2006 at Santa Barbara, California, October 22-28, 2006.

Exploiting the knowledge acquired in the past edition, the one-day workshop will be organized into three main events: an oral session, a poster-demo session and an algorithm competition session.

The oral session will include papers with fundamental advances on both theoretical aspects and practical implementations of new generations of video surveillance and sensor networks and novel multimedia applications in the field.

The workshop topics will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Video Surveillance and sensor network architecture
  • Multi-Camera, multi-sensor calibration
  • Cameras and/or sensors coordination and synchronization
  • New sensors, new cameras architectures
  • Distribute surveillance systems
  • Video and multimedia analysis
  • Multi-people, multi camera tracking
  • People surveillance from overlapped, disjointed cameras
  • Free surveillance from moving cameras
  • Object Detection and Recognition in Unconstrained Environments
  • People behaviour control
  • People posture, gesture, face and interaction analysis
  • Audio surveillance and cross-modality surveillance
  • Augmented video analysis (with audio and other sensors)
  • Machine Learning Techniques for Event Mining
  • Sensor (Stream) Multimedia Surveillance Data management
  • Annotation, Indexing and Storage
  • Archival/Retrieval of Sensor Data
  • Query Paradigms and Languages
  • Applications
  • Crime prevention
  • Traffic control
  • Home surveillance

The poster/demo session will cover the same topics with special emphasis on innovative and brave projects in video surveillance and sensor networks

The competition will compare open-source programs in motion segmentation for surveillance. This competition will continue the past edition competition in background detection. Data input sequences and corresponding ground-truthed data will be provided in order to have a common framework for a fair comparison of the algorithms.

The accepted papers will be published in the printed and electronic versions of the proceedings of ACM Multimedia. The papers will be also inserted and indexed in the ACM Digital Library.

Best papers will be selected for publication on a Special Issue of an international journal (to be announced soon).
